The annual Investing in African Mining Indaba 2012 is taking place next week from 6 – 9 February and is expected to highlight critical issues in the South African mining industry that need to be urgently addressed. Arjen de Bruin, Operations Solutions MD at OIM International, and Chris Jacobs, Director of Conflict Resolution at OIM International, who both have vast experience in creating sustainable solutions for local mining houses, say that building the right culture to improve safety and labour productivity is one such issue that will most likely dominate the conference.

I would like to propose an interview with Chris Jacobs who is also keen to speak on the following:

  • How mining management and unions can work in partnership.

I would also like to propose a interview with Arjen de Bruin who is also keen to speak on the following:

  • How the implementation of an effective forecast planning schedule will increase productivity in mining houses;
  • Why absenteeism and shortage of skilled staff are major factors that affect productivity on plants;
  • How to ensure plant equipment is maintained on a regular basis in order to prevent unnecessary breakdowns which often result in productivity decrease;
  • The importance of proper supervisory skills to ensure ongoing productivity and team motivation.

Please do not hesitate to call me to set up what promises to be a highly insightful interview with De Bruin and/or Jacobs. I look forward to hearing from you.
